*****
As a therapist, I support young women who are looking for increased self-esteem, strong confidence, and amplified self-compassion. I am a firm believer that all women experience grief. Grief is present in all people’s lives, stemming from a variety of lived experiences. I work with women to move forward with their lived experiences as an alternative to moving on from them. My approach allows you to reflect on your life experiences, acknowledge them, identify the emotions surrounding your experiences and learn to comprehend what hardships you have endured, while honoring yourself in the process, and decide what you want for your future life. I will be present with you in acknowledging the impacts of grief in your life as well as how it has manifested in your past, present, and even future experiences.
Take control of your life today, you deserve a healthy, enjoyable future. One that does not dismiss the challenges you have faced, but seeks to help you acknowledge those experiences and work towards creating a future that is both fulfilling and safe for you. Start understanding how environments interact with you as well as what you want from it in return. Move forward with past lived experiences and work towards creating experiences that you desire and deserve.
I practice with a feminist strengths-based lens that encompasses ideology from systems theory and an intersectionality framework– more specifically understanding that one is impacted by various socioeconomic influences such as family dynamics, peer network, environmental setting, class, religious structure, sexuality, gender, race, disability and education. Using this lens allows me to foster a trauma informed approach with empathetic understanding and unconditional positive regard for all populations of peoples.
SPECIALTIES: My specialties and clinical interests include: women's issues, Adults with desire to increase self-worth and self-esteem, Child/family conflict resolution, Parent support of children with intellectual disabilities and behavioral issues, parents adapting to children of special needs, and individuals (children or adults) recovering from grief and loss that includes environmental changes (family separation), animal and human loss.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: My educational experience includes a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern Maine (2020) and B.S. in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Maine at Farmington (2013). I have greater than ten years’ experience working with children/families with a variety of different intellectual and mental health needs. My work history includes working with incarcerated women, home and community-based family therapy, teaching special education, substance use treatment for adolescents, and school-based therapy.
My approach for working with children is fostered by the Reggio Emilia and Waldorf perspectives. These approaches are child-centered and child-directed encouraging curiosity and self-expression that fosters each child’s natural development. I have a desire to support the social emotional development of children by teaching them self-advocacy with critical thinking, problem solving, and asking questions. The inclusion of curiosity promotes a safe space for children to identify challenges and express stressors of daily life.
I have extensive experience working with children on the Autism spectrum and many with intellectual disabilities. I feel passionate about supporting both the child and parent in processing the daily increased challenges of unique disabilities. I have experience with diverse demographic groups, providing me familiarity with linguistic, cultural, and social barriers.
I have provided grief group therapy in an incarceration setting. I can support those in grief surrounding past trauma, family and animal loss. I have researched the significance of animal human bond and this guides my practice surrounding healing from animal loss. This is done with motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), expressive arts therapy, DBT, narrative therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
I have provided substance use counseling and recovery support for disordered eating for adolescent youth and adult women with the primary focus on building DBT, CBT and ACT skills. This allows for creating rational decision making and disengaging from cognitive addictive biases. I have extensive knowledge in understanding support networks for sobriety and am a SMART recovery facilitator. SMART is a self-management and recovery training that encompasses skill building and increases self-determination for one’s recovery. I promote a harm reduction model and believe in family safety planning that builds increased trust and family compassion.
